Summer Activities!

Thanks to those students who participated in the parade! Also a big THANK YOU! goes out to Donny Johnston for providing the flatbed trailer and the Tom Durst family for providing the straw bales.

We are now in the planning stages of having the first every pawnee coyote marching band participate in this summer’s Cheyenne frontier days parades.

We are planning on weekly rehearsals starting tuesday June 24th and then...  Tuesday July 1, 8, and 15 to coincide with baseball games. The parade dates are Saturday, July 19, Tuesday, July 22.. (we are planning to stay for the FREE rodeo this day), Thursday, July 24 and Saturday, July 26.

All rehearsals will be from 5 - 6 p.m. starting in the music room.....

The band is paid an honorarium for each parade we march. The final amount is being negotiated but we will have funds to reimburse each participant their $5 for their t-shirt and hopefully provide a hat of some kind. We are also looking at buying tickets to drums along the Rockies drum and bugle corps competition to held at
INVESCO field on Saturday, July 12.

Please contact Mr. Holton if you have any questions or contact me @ thebandguy@msn.com

   Occasional Humor:

- The principal singer of nineteenth century opera was
called pre-Madonna.

- Gregorian chant has no music, just singers singing the
same lines.

- Sherbet composed the Unfinished Symphony.

- All female parts were sung by castrati. We don't know ex-
actly what they sounded like because there are no known
descendants.

- Young scholars have expressed their rapture for the Bronze
Lullaby, the Taco Bell Cannon, Beethoven's Erotica,
Tchaikovsky Cracknutter Suite, and Gershwin's Rap City in
Blue.

- Music sung by two people at the same time is called a
duel; if they sing without music it is called Acapulco.

- A virtuoso is a musician with real high morals.

- Contralto is a low sort of music that only ladies sing.

- Probably the most marvelous fugue was the one between the
Hatfields and the McCoys.

- I know what a sextet is but I'd rather not say.

- Johann Sebastian Bach wrote a great many musical com-
positions and had a large number of children. In between he
practiced on an old spinster which he kept up in his attic.

- Rock Monanoff was a famous post-romantic composer of piano concerti.
